HOMEOWNER QUESTIONS

Heat pump rebate FAQs.

How to claim, who may qualify, eligible equipment, Ontario incentives, and installation planning. Information checked October 12, 2026.

Official Government of Canada information
When does Canada’s new heat pump rebate launch?

The Prime Minister’s October 8, 2026 speech says the online portal will be accessible “by January,” pointing to January 2027. An exact opening date, including January 1, has not been confirmed. Read the announcement speech.

Who can receive up to $10,000?

The announcement provides up to $10,000 for eligible below-median-income households, and $2,000 for other eligible households. Detailed eligibility criteria are still to be confirmed. Hudson’s interest form does not assess or guarantee eligibility.

Can I combine federal and provincial rebates?

The federal announcement says the rebate can be combined with existing provincial programs. The applicable Ontario program, equipment and stacking rules will need to be checked for your installation. We aren’t quoting a combined rebate amount before those requirements are clear.

Will a heat pump work in a Canadian winter?

Cold-climate heat pumps are designed for low outdoor temperatures. Performance depends on the equipment, the home’s heat loss and the system design. Appropriate sizing and a suitable backup strategy matter; a home assessment helps determine the right setup.

What if my home currently uses a natural gas furnace?

We’re waiting for the final criteria to confirm how the new federal program will apply to natural-gas-heated homes. You can join Hudson’s list for updates without assuming your current system qualifies.

Should I install now and claim the new rebate later?

Retroactive eligibility has not been established in the official information linked here. Don’t rely on the new rebate for an installation completed before its rules and approval process are available. If your heating system needs immediate attention, contact Hudson to discuss your options.

Is joining Hudson’s list a rebate application?

No. Our list is for program updates and home heat pump planning. It is separate from the government’s application process and does not confirm eligibility or reserve funding. There’s no deposit or obligation to purchase, and you can unsubscribe anytime.

How do I apply for Canada’s National Heat Pump Rebate?

Once the government portal opens, the announced process is to apply online with your information and eligible heat pump details, receive approval, complete the installation, and submit receipts to claim payment. Hudson can help you plan the equipment and installation; the government determines eligibility and approval.

Are heat pump rebate applications approved within 24 hours?

The federal announcement sets a 24-hour application approval target. This refers to the government’s rebate application, not financing or Hudson’s interest list. The final portal instructions will explain what is needed for a complete application.

Do I need an energy audit for the new federal heat pump rebate?

The National Heat Pump Rebate announcement says no pre-installation or post-installation energy audit is required. Separate Ontario incentive programs may have different assessment requirements.

Which heat pumps are eligible for the rebate?

The federal announcement covers eligible electric cold-climate air-source heat pumps on the government’s Eligible Products List. The exact indoor and outdoor equipment combination matters. Confirm the model and program requirements before purchasing or installing a system.

How soon will I receive my heat pump rebate?

The government has announced payment approval within five days after the required purchase and installation receipts are submitted. Payment approval is separate from the time it takes funds to reach your account. Final payment instructions will be provided through the government portal.

Can I get a rebate for a ductless mini-split or a hybrid heat pump?

A system type alone does not establish eligibility. Ductless, ducted and hybrid configurations must be checked against the applicable program’s product list and installation rules. Hudson can help you compare options for your home as the final requirements become available.

What Ontario heat pump rebates should I check?

Ontario homeowners can also explore the Home Renovation Savings program from Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas. It is separate from the new federal rebate. Eligibility, available incentives and any combination of programs should be checked against the current rules before work begins.

Does Hudson install heat pumps in Toronto and the GTA?

Yes. Hudson provides home heat pump installations and service across Toronto and surrounding GTA communities, with guidance on rebate and incentive programs. Share your postal code so our team can confirm service availability and discuss your home.

How much does a home heat pump installation cost?

The price depends on the home’s heating needs, equipment, ductwork, electrical capacity and installation scope. Hudson provides a project-specific quote so you can understand the full installed cost and any confirmed incentives before proceeding.

What should I prepare before requesting a heat pump quote?

Have your postal code, current heating system type, approximate home size and any recent heating or cooling concerns ready. Photos of the existing equipment, electrical panel and proposed outdoor location can help the team plan the next steps. Do not send sensitive financial information through the interest form.
